Anlass fü den Bau von Schloss Nymphenburg war die Geburt eines Thronfolgers. Als 1662 Max Emanuel sur Welt kam, schenkte Kurfurst Ferdinand Maria seiner Frau eine Hofmark vor den Toren der Stadt. Henriette Adelaide liess dort nach italienischen Vorbildern durch Agostino Barrelli und Enrico Zuccali ab 1664 ein Sommersschloss errichten. Erst unter ihrem Sohn Max Emanuel wurde Nymphenburg von Antonio Viscardi und später Joseph Effner zu einer Schloss anlage von imposanten Ausmassen erweitert.

The building of Nymphenburg started with the birth of successors to the Bavarian German throne. Max Emanuel, born in 1662, gave Prince Ferdinand's wife the key to the gateway of the city of Munich. Henriette Adelaide hired the Italian architects Agostino Barrelli and Enrico Succali in 1664 to build this summer palace. Later their son had building continue with Antonio Viscardi and later Joseph Effner to complete this sprawlingly vast castle.
